Billie Jeans

Maybe about once a month or so, there will be a Denim Day at work. For a minimum $5 donation to that Denim Day's charity, we can wear jeans to work. In terms of comfort, nothing beats wearing jeans in the office. Unless there was a Denim and Slipper Day, when we could also wear our slippers. Such is my love for days like today, that I even made a song about it. I was singing to myself this morning, and Nick joined in as well. It's quite catchy: "Oh, today is Denim Day/ Yes, it will be a good day! Woo!" (Repeat.)

Hungry for More?

I was reading Suldog's blog, and decided to consider myself tagged. Without further ado, here are 7 weird and/or random facts about myself:

1. My high school superlative was, Class Clown.
2. I can recite "Pee Wee's Big Adventure" and "Spaceballs" word-for-word.
3. My husband and I met on Match.com. (No, we haven't done a commercial.)
4. I need to wear glasses or contacts and hearing aids, but my sense of smell is incredible. If I can't smell it, then the odor doesn't exist. (Now, there's something to brag about.)
5. I love words and languages. When I was younger, I used to go to the foreign language reference sections in bookstores, find the English to ____ dictionaries and memorize the Turkish word for flower and the Finnish word for sandwich.
6. At BC, I was a Russian, Classics and Linguistics major, before I finally settled on Spanish.
7. I won a call-in contest on the radio to see Robbie Williams perform at a Boston hotel while he was promoting, Escapology. It was awesome.

I'm not going to tag anyone either; but I hope you enjoyed my first meme.

Librarian Love

"The only thing better than a good library is a good librarian to act as a guide."

Please read Hiawatha Bray's article from Boston.com. It's nice to see an article that doesn't bash libraries, their resources, and librarians for being obsolete.

Summer's Still Here, "Weather" You Like it or Not

There's a day every year, usually in March, where the temperature briefly hits 70 degrees or so and people are led to believe that spring weather has arrived. Even if blocks of snow are frozen to the ground and Opening Day is still a week away, tags are ripped off new summer wardrobe items and pasty legs, arms and shoulders are put on display. My husband and his buddies claim to love this day, since tank tops and sundresses leave a lot less to the imagination than sweaters and corduroys. There's a corresponding day in the late summer too, say August 27th, when we begin lusting for football, foliage and fall clothing. These seasonal longings coupled with a touch of brisk morning air, have the same effects on people's common sense as does the 70 degree day in March. This morning, there was a woman at my bus stop wearing a black peacoat and a fuzzy pink scarf. I felt for her, as I've jumped the weather gun too, and watched as she sighed with relief as we boarded the air-conditioned bus.

Formaggio

I was just walking down Dartmouth St, on my way to get my eyebrows waxed, when I was stopped at the corner of Dartmouth and Tremount by 2 men holding a map and asking for directions to Quincy Market. I asked if they wanted to walk or take the train, but they were Italian and didn't speak English very well. "Caminar?" I asked in Spanish, since I couldn't remember the Italian verb. They nodded their heads, and so I began showing the 1 guy holding the map where we were in relation to Quincy Market. My head was bent down when I heard *click click.* The 2nd guy was furiously talking photos of us, and motioned for me to keep my head down when I looked up in surprise. The 2 men began arguing in Italian and walked away without acknowledging me further. I have no idea where those pictures will end up, but I wish they had run into me after I had gotten my eyebrows waxed...

For Better or For Worse- Any Readers?

I've read "For Better of For Worse" for years and years, and have been disappointed in the recent development that Elizabeth is going to marry Anthony. Today's strip was such a cliffhanger that I actually gasped at the last box. I can't wait for tomorrow's strip- any guesses on what will happen? Is anyone one else out there a fan?

Photo from Boston.com
I walk by this site every day, and while it's interesting to see the building's innards, so to speak, I'm very excited to see how the new construction will develop. This article on Boston.com this morning is particularly frightening... I hope 2 years from now this photo still isn't an accurate representation of Downtown Crossing.

I Never Thought I'd Be the Person Who Dresses Her Cat

Nick is in Florida this week for business, so it's just Dwayne and I. Poor Dwayne gets all of my attention when Nick's not around.

I really think blue is his color

Where are they now?

Ever wonder what happened to your ex that cheated on you and then lied about it? The guy who cut you off in traffic? How about the jock from high school that would make fun of the overweight kids? Looks like they're all hanging out in aisle 10 at Rite Aid.

Ba dum da dum!

Thank you, thank you... I'm here all night, folks!

Please Take Your Coffee Cups, Metros & Rubber Gloves When You Exit the Bus

In the morning, seats are hard to come by on the bus. When a seat is occupied by something other than a paying customer (newspaper, spilled coffee, blobs of unidentifiable funk), the seat is usually claimed anyway. On the crowded 7 bus this morning, 2 seats remained empty, as no one wanted anything to do with the box of rubber gloves and discarded t shirt that were on them.

Son of a Beach

Leah, Lauren and I had a fun time in Newport this weekend. I've known them for almost 18 years and they've known each other even longer than that! It's so nice to have life-long friends that share a lot of memories and inside jokes. Despite the rainy forecasts, it was sunny and warm both days. We arrived on Friday afternoon and on a friend's recommendation we ate an excellent dinner at Sardella's and had drinks at Fluke. On Saturday, we spent the day at Sachuset (2nd) Beach. The water was actually pretty warm; however, there was a lot of seaweed in the ocean which colored the ocean waves reddish brown. That night, we had drinks at Tucker's (check out the photos on their website- cool artsy decor) and ate some of our ocean friends at Newport Tokyo House. On Sunday, we decided to skip the beach in favor of the Cliff Walk. This is a beautiful, relaxing walk that offers great views of both the ocean and Newport's mansions. Non-resident parking in Newport is scare, but we were luckily able to find either metered, street or lot parking without much trouble. Since our hotel was in Middletown and not in Newport, we didn't take advantage of the public transportation. There's a seasonal trolley that provides transportation to the beaches and points of interest, so it might be worth paying extra to stay directly in Newport for the trolley's convenience.

Casting Call for the "Clark Rockefeller Story"

So, when the Clark Rockefeller story is inevitably made into a movie, I'd like to suggest the following cast:

Clark Rockefeller will be played by Kevin Spacey

Sandra Boss will be played by Laura Linney

Reigh "Snooks" Storrow Boss will be played by Elle Fanning (Dakota's little sister)

Don't Leave the House Today

This morning at work I was minding my own business when my glasses fell apart. Apparently a screw was loose (insert your own joke here) and like fingers slipping through someone else's rescue grip, it just couldn't hold on any longer. I've worn glasses since I was three years old, (I still have my first pair- they have an Annie sticker on them) and this is the first time I've had a problem with a screw. Although, once during recess when I was in 6th grade, a stray kickball careened into my head and knocked my red Sally Jesse Raphael glasses to the pavement and they (mercifully) shattered.
I used to rock these frames back in the day

Thankfully, I had my contacts with me since I wear them during yoga, and I have my class tonight. I popped those in and then unwrapped my Dunkin Donuts breakfast sandwich to see that instead of egg and cheese on an English muffin, it was some omelet type thingy with sausage on a croissant. My glasses falling apart and receiving an incorrect breakfast order are obviously just small annoyances; at least my bike hasn't been stolen (yet.)

Waiting for My Free Cherrypal

I signed up to be a Cherrypal brand angel. Cherrypal is the new green PC that's retailing for $249. In return for blogging about my experiences (both positive & negative) using Cherrypal, they are sending me a free PC that should arrive any day now.

In addition to sending me a free PC, they also gave me a promotion code for my blog readers that are interested in purchasing a Cherrypal. Use the code CPP220 at checkout and you'll get $10 off. (Each time someone uses my code, I receive some compensation as well.) Anyway, I'm excited to be a part of the green PC initiative and hope to provide some useful information to anyone who's interested in learning more about Cherrypal from someone who's not an official Cherrypal representative.
