This morning after grabbing my Dunkin' Iced Coffee, I waved to our building security woman and walked up to the elevator keypad.
For some reason the button wouldn't light up to signal the elevator was coming down to the lobby. Only after about a minute of frustration did I realize I was trying to call the elevator by holding my building security pass in front of the button and waiting for it to light... Amazingly, my frustration ended when I took the more conventional route of pushing it.
This is quite possibly even worse than the time my husband and I went to Lucca in the Back Bay right before Lexi was born. After perusing the menu, I looked at Nick and said, "Well, I think I'm going to have the 10 and 22." Confused, he asked what the hell I was talking about.
"Isn't your menu numbered?" I asked as I pointed to the salad and pasta dishes I wanted to order. Nick looked at me, and realizing his wife's I.Q. had dropped numerous points over the previous nine months, sadly told me, "Those are the prices!"

My Boston Limerick
As part of a contest on Boston.com, I wrote a limerick today. Readers were asked to submit one that sums up Boston. I wasn't sure if there were syllable requirements to take into consideration in addition to the a-a-b-b-a rhyming scheme. I also wasn't sure if a limerick should start out with, "There once was a..." Oh well, I had fun writing it! I wrote mine about the morning commute, because that sums up Boston to me. Or at least that's something I spend a lot of time thinking about.
And, as my family in Buffalo would say, "There ya go!"
Shivering outside, cold freezes my feet
I see the bus! Maybe I'll get a seat?
Ugh, line's out the door at Dunkies
Iced coffee, skim, no sugar, please
Melt snow! (So I can whine about the heat.)
And, as my family in Buffalo would say, "There ya go!"

Until We Meet Again...
On Wednesday I saw a sign in Dunkin Donuts announcing that the pumpkin muffin was back. I love the pumpkin muffin, and told myself that I'd get it as a treat for breakfast on Friday. Well, this morning I said to Nick that it was going to be a good morning, because I was welcoming back the pumpkin muffin. I just got to my desk, peered into the bag, and anticipating the soft crumbly top, I saw sugar crystals instead. Those fools gave me a blueberry! Foiled!

Skim, no sugar or poison, please
I can tell how my iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts will taste based on the first sip. I order a medium iced hazelnut with skim. I used to add, No sugar, please, to the end of my order; however, I've found that not mentioning sugar at all is the best way to keep it out of my drink. Most of the times, it's cool and refreshing and the correct flavor. Other times, it's warm and watery or non-flavored. The best way to test how well the coffee has been made, is to stick the straw all the way down to the bottom of the cup and take a long sip. If sugar's been accidentally added, then you'll find out for sure. This morning, after having attended an early morning yoga class, I was particularly looking forward to my coffee. Normally, I don't take a sip until I arrive at my desk and have situated myself at my computer. When I took a sip this morning, it was like drinking battery acid. I swallowed a little bit, but managed to spit the rest back in the cup. There was a pool of something (hopefully meant for human consumption) on the bottom of my cup that created a sensation of 200 miniature knives poking me in the throat. I've since downed 2 glasses of water, and am hoping that my tonsils aren't melting and dripping slowly into my stomach. Tomorrow, maybe I'll get an iced tea...
