Humidity: Nature's Hair Mousse
Like the Grinch's heart, my hair grew 3 sizes today!
"Don't hate me because I'm beautiful; this is my hair when I wake up in the morning."
Like this look? Recreate it for cheap in 2 easy steps:
1. Style hair as normal, and walk 7 or so city blocks in the damp warm weather.
2. Sit for 10 minutes on a hot crowded bus.

Bend Me, Shape Me, Anyway You Want Me
Marathon Monday weather watch continues.

Raindrops are back in the picture...
Also, if you're going to be keeping an eye out for a particular athlete, you can sign up to receive text or email updates via the AT&T Athlete Alert. If you want to follow me, please do! I'm bib 25654. (My bib number helps put into perspective just how many entrants there are, not even including the bandits.) Wow!
This post's title is a line from the American Breed's 1968 song, "Bend Me, Shape Me." I started singing "Track me, follow me, anyway you want to" after reading about the different ways you can track runners via the AT&T Alert...

Weather & Karaoke
Well, things are looking a bit improved from yesterday's forecast for Marathon Monday!
At least the raindrops have been edited out of the clouds. Also, unrelated to Monday's weather forecast, I was thinking the other day that my next 3 karaoke song selections will be:
*Under My Thumb
*Squeezebox
*Big Man on Mulberry Street (I've tried singing this one before, but it's never in the song selection books...)
I love to sing karaoke, we even went for my bachelorette party.
Once in a while, I like to relive my crazy days as a single lady & wear my hottie whistle & sash around town
Despite the fact that I love to sing karaoke, I am a TERRIBLE singer. I've been practicing each of the above-mentioned songs on Dwayne though, but my singing is so poor that even he goes running for the hills.

A Plea to Mother Nature!

Please don't rain on Marathon Monday! I'll take 30 degree weather over wet sneakers, socks, and stomping through puddles. Also, I am extremely clumsy and there's a 95% chance I'll slip and break an ankle if the ground is slick. If it does rain, keep an eye out for entrant 25654 sprawled across the pavement and someone shouting, "Alicia's down!"

Opening Day in Photos
As we got closer to 4:05, the winds picked up and we added more layers...A friend of ours couldn't make the game, so we were the lucky ticket recipients! These seats on the Bud Deck were awesome; you get a $50 food credit with them, so we splurged on an entire pizza. When the pizza arrived, Nick used the heat emanating from the hot pie to warm his hands for a bit before chowing down. The fact that the Sox won, we got to see Beckett pitch, Pedroia and Tek hit homeruns and Papelbon save combined with being at Fenway on Opening Day was very cool. The only downside was the weather, which was also very cool; however, that's a small price to pay for such an awesome experience. Go Sox!

Everything In My Nose Froze into Chunks This Morning
Has that every happened to you? While walking from Downtown Crossing to my building, the contents of my nose froze into little chunks. That makes for a difficult nose blow!
We're heading off to Killington this evening to enjoy a long ski weekend. Hopefully we come back with all fingers and toes in tact. At least it's sunny!

Summer's Still Here, "Weather" You Like it or Not
There's a day every year, usually in March, where the temperature briefly hits 70 degrees or so and people are led to believe that spring weather has arrived. Even if blocks of snow are frozen to the ground and Opening Day is still a week away, tags are ripped off new summer wardrobe items and pasty legs, arms and shoulders are put on display. My husband and his buddies claim to love this day, since tank tops and sundresses leave a lot less to the imagination than sweaters and corduroys. There's a corresponding day in the late summer too, say August 27th, when we begin lusting for football, foliage and fall clothing. These seasonal longings coupled with a touch of brisk morning air, have the same effects on people's common sense as does the 70 degree day in March. This morning, there was a woman at my bus stop wearing a black peacoat and a fuzzy pink scarf. I felt for her, as I've jumped the weather gun too, and watched as she sighed with relief as we boarded the air-conditioned bus.

Hot in Herre
About 4 years ago, 4 of my high school friends and I took a trip to Fort Lauderdale. Our beachfront hotel was gorgeous and centrally located. In order to cut costs, we all stayed in the same room, which meant that there were 2 to a bed and the last one in each night was rewarded with a makeshift bed that consisted of 2 armchairs pushed together. In addition to squeezing 5 adults into one room, we also managed to save some money by going in mid-July. I believe the average temperature hovered around 96, which made laying out at the beach practically intolerable. Our 2nd or 3rd day there, my friend John retrieved the complimentary newspaper outside our hotel room and sat down to read. "Well, I'm looking at the weather," he said, "And in case you're interested it's printed right here: Hot as balls." I don't think the weatherman could have put it any more accurately, and the expression has stuck with me over the years. On days like today when I set out on my 12 minute walk to the T and my glasses slip down my sweaty nose along the way, John's proclamation rings true in my head.
