Please Take Your Coffee Cups, Metros & Rubber Gloves When You Exit the Bus

In the morning, seats are hard to come by on the bus. When a seat is occupied by something other than a paying customer (newspaper, spilled coffee, blobs of unidentifiable funk), the seat is usually claimed anyway. On the crowded 7 bus this morning, 2 seats remained empty, as no one wanted anything to do with the box of rubber gloves and discarded t shirt that were on them.

Son of a Beach

Leah, Lauren and I had a fun time in Newport this weekend. I've known them for almost 18 years and they've known each other even longer than that! It's so nice to have life-long friends that share a lot of memories and inside jokes. Despite the rainy forecasts, it was sunny and warm both days. We arrived on Friday afternoon and on a friend's recommendation we ate an excellent dinner at Sardella's and had drinks at Fluke. On Saturday, we spent the day at Sachuset (2nd) Beach. The water was actually pretty warm; however, there was a lot of seaweed in the ocean which colored the ocean waves reddish brown. That night, we had drinks at Tucker's (check out the photos on their website- cool artsy decor) and ate some of our ocean friends at Newport Tokyo House. On Sunday, we decided to skip the beach in favor of the Cliff Walk. This is a beautiful, relaxing walk that offers great views of both the ocean and Newport's mansions. Non-resident parking in Newport is scare, but we were luckily able to find either metered, street or lot parking without much trouble. Since our hotel was in Middletown and not in Newport, we didn't take advantage of the public transportation. There's a seasonal trolley that provides transportation to the beaches and points of interest, so it might be worth paying extra to stay directly in Newport for the trolley's convenience.

Don't Leave the House Today

This morning at work I was minding my own business when my glasses fell apart. Apparently a screw was loose (insert your own joke here) and like fingers slipping through someone else's rescue grip, it just couldn't hold on any longer. I've worn glasses since I was three years old, (I still have my first pair- they have an Annie sticker on them) and this is the first time I've had a problem with a screw. Although, once during recess when I was in 6th grade, a stray kickball careened into my head and knocked my red Sally Jesse Raphael glasses to the pavement and they (mercifully) shattered.

I used to rock these frames back in the day

Thankfully, I had my contacts with me since I wear them during yoga, and I have my class tonight. I popped those in and then unwrapped my Dunkin Donuts breakfast sandwich to see that instead of egg and cheese on an English muffin, it was some omelet type thingy with sausage on a croissant. My glasses falling apart and receiving an incorrect breakfast order are obviously just small annoyances; at least my bike hasn't been stolen (yet.)
